With the lead up to the summer holidays coming quicker and quicker we found ourselves needing to think about taking on another member of staff. We also wanted to develop some of the skills of current members of staff.

The best way for us to do this was to run a couple of courses over the space of 3 weekends, the first of which was a pool lifeguard course which was attended by 1 current member of staff  Rhiannon Groves and 2 members of the public. The course was led by Tim Beckham from Bodmin Lifesavers. Tim has now trained nearly all of our members of staff and has been a very useful resource for the centre. We would like to thank him very much. Everyone passed with flying colours. From this course we where able to offer one of the participants a job here a the Leisure centre. We would like to welcome Patrick Lucas to the team.

The second course was a STA Swim Teachers Award. This course was run by our Managing Director Wayne Jordan-Shilling. We had 5 participants on this course, a few from other centres as well as Patrick Lucas and Ben Attfield who already work as Leisure Assistants for us. This course enables the participants upon completion to teach swimming lessons following the STA syllabus. We held the course over two weekends with the exam late on the last Sunday afternoon. Again Everyone passed with flying colours.

We would like to congratulate all the participants from both courses and wish you all the best in the future for your lifeguarding and/or swimming teaching.

If you are interested in becoming a lifeguard or a swimming teacher then please let us know. With enough interest we are able to put on courses to help you get to where you want to be. Please contact to register your interest.
