Camelford Leisure Centre has gone green – but only in terms of it’s energy production. A biomass boiler, running on wood chips from sustainable sources has replaced the old and very costly oil boiler.

The new boiler is capable of heating the swimming pool and the sports hall. It will reduce the Centre’s running costs, increase income from feed-in tariffs and improve the temperature control of the swimming pool and other facilities. It achieves an important milestone for the business plan that enabled residents in the community to take over the running of the Centre when it was threatened with closure and it will play a very important role in making sure the Centre is sustainable long into the future.

The Directors of the Centre thanked the many individuals and organisations who have supported this development at a reception hosted by the Environment Division of British Airways. BA provided support through a partnership scheme with Pure, The Clean Planet Trust that distributes funds raised by voluntary donations from BA customers.
